Alba has set a new sales record and last year was the best-ever for the company in terms of profitability.
In addition to record metal production weighing more than 872,000 tonnes, the Alba marketing team also sold off around 10,000 tonnes of inventory metal to set a new sales record of more than 883,000 tonnes, said Alba marketing general manager Mussaed Eid. Metal production was projected to reach a record-breaking 851,271 tonnes but Alba exceeded even this ambitious target to produce 872,388 tonnes to set a new metal production record.
The Alba marketing team capitalised on buoyant market trends and actually sold 883,247 tonnes by selling inventory metal, he said. This marks an increase of 204,067 tonnes over the previous year’s total sales figure which stood at 679,180 tonnes, said Eid.
It is certainly a dramatic improvement and an achievement the company could be proud of, he remarked. The 2006 metal sales included significant increases in value-added sales such as billets (up from 242,808 tonnes in 2005 to 339,473 tonnes in 2006) and ingots (up from 117,861 tonnes to 178,648 tonnes), said the official.
Hot metal, which is supplied to support Bahrain’s downstream aluminium industries, also increased from 120,228 tonnes in 2005 to 173,057 tonnes in 2006, he revealed.
