Gulftainer has announced it has started building new warehouses next to its Sharjah Inland Container Depot (SICD).

Continued success at SICD, where containers moving through Khorfakkan Container Terminal arrive or depart under bond, is due in no small measure to the fact that the site is so well located, the company said.
With the increasing pressure on the road infrastructure of the UAE, SICD’s position outside Sharjah, near the industrial areas and between major highways Emirates Road and the Outer Dubai Ring Road, means that consignees and shippers can easily and quickly access the site and equally quickly clear their containers through customs and health thanks to its ‘one-stop shop’ facilities.
Following a large number of enquiries it received from customers about facilities at the SICD and in the area and the fact that many were considering relocating their businesses there, Gulftainer said it decided to build the warehouses.
The first phase will be complete by the end of 2006 with two warehouses measuring 6,000 sq ft and nine 8,000 sq ft.
Key points in the construction are that each warehouse will be insulated, have an office, kitchen and toilet facilities as well as 24-hour security. Other key points are that the facilities will be centrally located by the main East to West highways connecting Khorfakkan, Sharjah and Hamriyah Ports to Dubai and the Northern Emirates. They are sited next to the industrial zones of Sharjah and minutes away from Sharjah Airport and the industrial zones of Dubai.
