SuperCube: value in product handling

Superfos has announced its new product SuperCube designed to provide logistics advantages and cost savings, whilst also being user-friendly and aesthetically appealing.

“It stores 30 per cent more efficiently compared to filled round containers on pallets in storage and during transportation,” a company spokesman said. “A standard pallet that holds 90 filled, round 5-litre containers will in comparison hold 120 SuperCube containers. If a customer handles 1 million 5-litre containers in one year it corresponds to 2,800 less pallets or approximately 40 full truck-loads that need to be handled, stored and transported,” the company estimated.
To further optimise logistics and ensure product quality, SuberCube has a protective collar to ensure stability and protect the lid and contents during transportation.
The cubic shape has also been used to strengthen user-friendliness. By applying a new technique the handle is mounted diagonally from one corner to the opposite. This both adds to the unique look and serves as a user-friendly pouring device enabling consumers to easily pour contents from a spare corner with minimal waste and mess to clean up.
To ensure user-friendliness SuperCube has an easy-open peel-off lid and a re-closure system with a new two-clip function that makes storage of unused contents easy, liquid tight and hygienic.
“Altogether, SuperCube is extremely well suited for dairies that demand convenience; it is easy to carry and handle,” the spokesman said.
Commented Superfos’sales and marketing director Martin Malmros: “Today, differentiation is paramount to win consumer preferences, and packaging is a very visible parameter to ensure differentiation and visibility. But it takes more to make a pack attractive. It has to be efficient in production and handling, and must help create preferences for a brand.”
Malmros said the focus when developing SuperCube was on creating a solution where shape and design interplayed to optimise all aspects. The goal had been to create a full solution that added value in product handling and in relation to the consumer.
“As the name indicates, the new SuperCube is based on a cubic shape that in itself catches the eye. The large flat surfaces offer strong profiling and this provides strong visibility and on-pack branding – both in the store and at home,” the official said.
Superfos develops and produces user-friendly plastic packaging of high quality for the products that people use every day throughout their lives such as food, dairy products, medicine, cosmetics, oil and paint.
With 14 productions facilities in Europe and one in the United States, the company has an annual turnover of approximately 344 millions euros and 1,800 employees. Superfos Industries is controlled by the investment companies Industri Kapital 1997 (67 per cent) and Ratos AB (public.) (33 per cent).
