
Aramex in acquisition talks
Aramex, part of Arab International Logistics, which is listed on the Dubai Financial Market, said it was in final negotiations with Liban Post for the acquisition of the Lebanese postal service operator.
Aramex said it was issuing the statement in response to reports in the Lebanese media about the status of the talks and Aramex’s post-acquisition plans.
Once an agreement is reached and the acquisition becomes official, Aramex intends to work with the current staff of Liban Post to support the infrastructure of the postal operator and strengthen its services, it said. Aramex provides total transportation solutions in the Mena (Middle East and North Africa) region and South Asia.
Facilities extended
DHL has announced it has extended its premium fixed-time delivery service to cover small parcels and documents traffic between the six GCC states and the Asia Pacific region. DHL’s TDD express portfolio offers guaranteed door-to-door delivery by 9 am through StartDay Express and deliveries by noon through MidDay Express.
DPA team visits China
A high-level delegation from Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), led by Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, its chief executive officer, recently visited Qingdao City in China to discuss cooperation in port construction and development. During the visit, Bin Thaniah met with Du Shicheng, vice secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shandong Committee and secretary of CPC Qingdao Committee, and Xia Geng, mayor of Qingdao City.
The delegation was briefed on Qingdao’s economic development and investment environment by Shicheng.
Plans for trams
Dubai plans to introduce its first tram system to provide an alternative mode of public transport in the city, a Dubai Municipality official said. The tram system will form part of the new road network project planned for the booming Al Sufouh area, the hub of residential, commercial and tourism projects such as Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Residences, Media City, Internet City, the Knowledge Village and a number of luxury hotels and resorts.
