A production facility of the company

Kuwait Catalyst Company’s (KCC) plant, which manufactures catalysts for the crude oil refining process, is the only one of its kind in the region.

The plant, located at the Shuaiba Industrial Area in the vicinity of Kuwaiti refineries, has a production capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year (tpy) and is licensed to produce hydrotreating and hydrocracking catalysts under licence from Japan Energy Corporation.
KCC manufactures atmospheric residue and vacuum residue desulphurisation catalysts as well as a wide variety of proprietary hydrotreating and hydrocracking catalysts. The broad, diverse and superior quality of HOP catalysts enables KCC to meet client-specific process requirements including the processing of naphtha, kerosene, diesel, VGO lubricants, base oil, atmospheric residue and vacuum residue.
Other catalysts it manufactures are for high desulphurisation, denitrification and hydrogenation of residue.
The plant consists of two production trains, kneading and extrusion facilities, dyeing and calcining components, utility systems, a waste gas treatment system, a wastewater treatment system, a laboratory, a production pilot plant and a material warehouse. KCC also has a spent catalyst plant, a vital facility to beat the environment hazards caused by spent catalysts from refineries. The 8,000 tonnes per year spent catalyst processing and safe disposal plant provides a complete and environmentally compatible solution by reclaiming catalytic metals on a commercial scale and safely reforming other constituents in the spent catalysts.
“It is really noteworthy that KCC will manufacture and supply the fresh catalyst to the refining process and take back the spent catalyst from the refineries for processing and reclaiming the catalytic metals and for safe disposal,” said the company.
Also, through a partnership agreement between KCC and the Swiss company Filtro SA, KCC manufactures Helamin, an environmentally compatible multi-component water treatment package.
Helamin has advantages over conventional water conditioning programmes including reduction in operating costs and maintenance. The product has applications in steam generators, warm and hot water networks, superheaters, turbines, cooling systems and air scrubbers and humidifiers.
