Vessels docked for repairs

Arabian Ship Repair Yard (Asry) has reported an improved performance in the first quarter of 2005 in terms of sales and the number of ships docked for repairs.

It reported that 43 vessels were docked for repairs and refurbishment, up 20 per cent on the same period of 2004 while sales climbed 25 per cent .
“Along with this the level of enquiries remains high with forward orders over the second quarter looking very healthy with a number of owners committing with firm contracts well into June,” an Asry spokesman said.
“On the international front there were 22 vessels repaired, again up on the same period as last year and it’s the same story with the Arab markets with 21 vessels repaired, also up on last year.”
The company also reported multiple dockings from a number of owners including National Marine Dredging, Kuwait Oil Tanker Company, SAK National Chemical Carriers, Dynacom Tankers Management, Bergesen DY ASA, Nordic Maritime Services AS and Zodiac Maritime Agencies.
The repairs and the multiple dockings clearly illustrated the excellent support received by the yard from a broad range of international and Arab clients, it said.
Vessels repaired during the first quarter included the Berge Enterprise at 360,700 dwt, Gemini Star, 301,862 dwt, Al Tahreer, 284,532 dwt, Kate, 150,903 dwt, Mineral Sines, 172,313 dwt, Patris, 298,543 dwt, Gas Al Minagish, 47,471 dwt, NCC Yamamah, 28,053 dwt, NCC Riyad, 37,252 dwt, Express, 81,275, Patmos Senator, 45,696 dwt,  Sabarimalai, 30,800 dwt, Berge Spirit, 55,173 dwt, Al Mansour, 72,562 dwt, Swat, 86,593 dwt and the Genmar Boss, 89,600 dwt.
“The high demand means that Asry has repaired a variety of vessels, including offshore rigs, construction barges, chemical carriers and livestock carriers as well as dock gates and tankers showing the versatility of the yard in being able to handle a wide and diverse range of repairs,” the spokesman said.
The yard also said demand for blasting and painting had been constant during the first quarter with just under 500,000 sq m of painting being completed. Additionally, some 100,000 sq m of blasting was undertaken. A total of 16 boiler repairs were completed, drawing on the yard’s full range of facilities to complete the work on schedule. Steel repairs were also in demand with over 1,000 tonnes of steel being used.
