Fenner Dunlop’s new UsFlex: tenacious and safe

UsFlex, a new type of conveyor belt, introduced by Dutch company Fenner Dunlop Europe, features a number of advantages resulting from specially woven carcass, the company says.

The carcass fabric with its straight warp construction is a the key feature of the UsFlex conveyor belt. The belt is constructed of high-tenacity polyester fibre warp cords (lengthwise) and nylon filling cords (crosswise) that run perfectly straight in both directions and are therefore not interlaced as in conventionally woven carcasses.
“This ensures that their maximum tensile strength is retained while at the same time weakness areas at the pulleys do not occur. As a result of this, UsFlex conveyor belts have an impact strength that is many times higher than that of comparable multiple-ply belts,” a company text said.
The UsFlex conveyor belt also possesses a very high rip and tear resistance both longitudinally and transversely. Its rip resistance is at least five times higher than that of comparable multiply conveyor belts, and therefore the UsFlex belt offers the ideal solution for operating environments featuring severe load conditions, according to the company.
The new conveyor belt is available as a single unit carcass (type UsFlex I) for tension ratings up to 800 N/mm and as double unit carcass (type UsFlex II) for 1,000 N/mm and above. These belts come in widths from 400 to 2,000 mm. A wide range of protective covers for the belt is available in the form of compounds that include flame- and heat-resistant, oil- and grease-resistant and abrasion-resistant grades.
UsFlex conveyor belts are suitable for all stages of the production process in a wide range of application environments. Depending on the belt type, examples of their application include quarrying, mining (coal and heavy metals), the wood products industry, paper and pulp manufacture, cement production and the recycling industry).
Besides its tough construction, which makes the UsFlex conveyor belt particularly suitable for heavy-duty service, its low operating cost per tonne is another feature that makes the belt extremely attractive for many conventional standard uses, Fenner Dunlop said.
“UsFlex conveyor belts are rapid and simple to joint by means of the finger splice method. This method gives the highest possible bond strength of the joint. Besides the exceptionally reliable finger splice, the innovative Us-Flex carcass is also suitable for the conventional step (lap) splice method and mechanical fastenings,” the company added.
