Used vehicles imported from the US and Europe will require a certificate of conformity, according to a decision by the Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation (Saso).
Saso has decided on 20 standards that second-hand vehicles must comply with before being imported into the Kingdom. Conformity certificates will be issued by Saso-approved agencies in the vehicles' countries of origin.
Saso director-general Khaled Al Khalaf said used car importers were claiming that the vehicles were being brought to the Kingdom purely for spare parts while it had been observed that some vehicles had been put back on the road.
