The Saudi Amiantit Group’s recently installed polyethylene and glass reinforced pipe factories in Jeddah have managed to win sizable contracts for projects in Saudi Arabia and abroad, a spokesman for the two factories said.

The Amiantit Polyethylene Pipe Industries Limited, whose factory was completed in mid-2002, has announced it will raise its capacity to 24,000 tonnes per year (tpy) by 2005, twice its current production.
The company makes high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes as well as all kinds of fittings. It uses the extrusion method for producing solid wall pipes and corrugated wall pipes and undertakes welding to make the fittings.

The products have applications for potable water, sewerage drainage, domestic gas stormwater drainage and irrigation. They are also suitable for the conveyance of slurries and aggressive chemicals. The diameter range is 40mm to 630mm for solid wall and 250mm to 1,000mm for corrugated wall.

“We have multiple projects in Saudi Arabia in the areas of Yanbu, Tabuk, Salwa and Taif and we are looking forward to have many other projects in other parts such as Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam,” the spokesman said.
“In general we have a very huge marketing potential in Saudi Arabia. Internationally, until now, we have some projects in Eritrea and Lebanon. There is a high degree of possibility we will penetrate the GCC and Pakistani markets,” he said in mid-November.

Amiantit Polyethylene Pipe Industries manufactures its products to the following standards: SASO No. 1401/1738; European 13476-1; ISO 4427 and DIN 8074/3075. The knowhow supplier was Amidex of South Africa.

The company has made ample provision for expansion at the site in the future. There is a total area of 100,000sq m with the covered area being 20,000 sq m. The storage area is 54,000 sq m with a covered area of 4,000 sq m.

The other factory – GRP AmiTech Company – has managed to secure prestigious orders in every region of Saudi Arabia. According to the spokesman, the value of the contracts was “in the tens of millions of Saudi riyals” within a year of the commencement of production. The company has a sister production facility in Dammam - AFIL Dammam.

GRP AmiTech makes filament winding pipes and fittings and centrifugal casting pipes and fittings.
The factory has a capacity to produce 100km per year of the filament winding pipes and fittings in sizes from DN 300mm to DN 2,400mm. Capacity for the centrifugal casting pipes and fittings is the same and the sizes offered are DN 500mm to DN 1,600mm.

The products are manufactured to the following standards and specifications: SASO No. 1577/1578; North American ASTM D-3262, D3754, D3517; European DIN 1639 and DIN 19565; IDO/DIS 10467 and DIN 8074/3075.  The knowhow suppliers are Flowtite of Norway and C-Tech, Bahrain.
