
Osram, one of Germany's oldest companies, has presented the Gulf market with the widest array of lamps covering domestic, commercial and industrial uses in addition to street lighting.
Its Gulf customers are served through its regional subsidiary, Osram Middle East FZE in Dubai. Established in October 1998, Osram Middle East has created a strong customer base and contributed significantly to its corporate image as a professional lighting system supplier.
Osram Middle East says its prime objective is to provide technical expertise and support to its customers in the Arabian lighting industry.
According to the company, it leads the Middle East market for innovative products with a market share of more than 30 per cent.
In 1936 Osram launched the first fluorescent lamp on the market. In 1985 it was the first manufacturer to introduce energy-saving Dulux El compact fluorescent lamps. Halogen lamps have seen a rapid progress since 1972 when Osram introduced Halolux, its first halogen lamps for mains voltage. In 1984 the first low-voltage halogen lamp with dichroic reflector and in 1994 the first halogen lamp with low-pressure and UV-Stop technology were introduced. Today all Osram halogen lamps offer that technology as a standard feature.
Osram is the leading supplier of Infrared Reflective Coating (IRC) lamps. IRC is a major innovation for energy saving with Osram halogen lamps. Osram Halostar IRC is the latest star saver, known to consume up to 30 per cent less electricity than conventional halogen pin-base lamps. IRC lamps are also available in Decostar and Halospot versions.
Osram Halopin is the smallest mains-voltage halogen lamp in the world, being only a few millimetres larger than the Halostar low-voltage lamp on which it is modelled and is equally suitable for miniaturised luminaries
With its FH, FQ and FC ranges of T5 lamp systems, Osram has opened up new horizons for 16mm diameter fluorescent lamps.

Osram has made a mark in street lighting. With the development of the new NAV 4Y high-pressure sodium lamps, the lamp replacement interval has been pushed from three years to four.
Osram's photo optics division offers light for photo, film, TV, cinema, stage and optics applications. The company has won two Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the development and continuous improvement of the HMI and XBO lamps.
Products launched in the Middle East in 2002 were the metal halide lamp Powerball HCI, Halospot IRC, Dulux L 80W, Dulux T/E 70W IN, long life fluorescent F36 4Y & F58 4Y, Endura 75W and Quicktronic Economy ECG.
Fastest selling Osram products in the region are incandescent lamps and T8 fluorescent lamps.
