Aggreko has achieved ISO quality certification for its entire depot network across the Middle East following the accreditation of its operations in the UAE last year. The other five depots in the region have now been certified to international quality standards.

Aggreko, which started operations in the Middle East in 1991, now has eight locations across the region. In September last year the company was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certificate for its Quality Management System in the UAE. This covered its depots in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and the Aggreko International Power Projects' Service and Resource Centre in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Recently the Aggreko depots in Doha, Dammam, Muscat, Bahrain and Jeddah were also awarded ISO 9001:2000 by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

"Since the middle of last year, all of Aggreko Middle East depots have been actively seeking customer feedback on the services provided," said Pradeep Bhalla, Aggreko manager for quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE). "The feedback has been positive with all customers indicating satisfaction with our services," he added. According to Bhalla, 17 per cent of the customer replies included suggestions for improvement and, wherever possible, steps to implement them are being taken.

"A key focus for successful organisations must be the ability to meet customers' requirements - the key principle underpinning ISO 9001:2000. Our process-based management system has allowed us to enhance customer satisfaction levels. The next step will be to focus more on analysing processes in advance to eliminate potential problems and continually improve the system," Bhalla said.

He explained that Aggreko's aim in pursuing ISO certification for its Middle Eastern operations was the implementation of an efficient and effective system where documents would only be generated where there was a genuine need. "No document would be generated that was 'only for ISO', or that would never be used in practice. ISO Certification standard has helped implement a quality management system with minimal bureaucracy," he said.

Michael Hanna, lead assessor, LRQA, added: "One of the major benefits of this achievement is that Aggreko has implemented a system that covered the whole region and consequently is able to ensure their customers receive products and services that consistently meet their requirements."
