CoBEC expertise grows in many fields mpany's (BEC) Electrical Projects Division counts Oman's Ministry of Electricity and Water and Petroleum Development Oman as its clients along with the country's ministries of Defence and Housing. In the UAE, it has implemented projects for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

Extending strong support to the Electrical Projects Division is another division of BEC -Electrical Products-, which is considered the largest electrical trading division in the Sultanate. Not limited to standard products, the division also designs and supplies special products such as transformers, skids and containerised package substations and switch rooms.

"From its inception in 1977, the Electrical Projects Division has grown extensively in terms of the nature of work and expertise, its capabilities ranging from LV works to the execution of projects up to 400kV on a construction basis and 220kV on an EPC basis," said BEC in a recent statement on the occasion of the division's silver jubilee.

"Electrical activities in the oil and gas sector and the Oman LNG project (both upstream and downstream) as well as power stations in the UAE and in Oman have widened the horizon."

The division is carrying out live line washing of T&D networks up to 132kV for various clients. Load dispatch operations have been a new field in which it has combined its resources with those of the client to effectively meet requirements.

"A good understanding of the clients' consultants' requirements, a combined team of personnel and availability of inhouse testing instruments are some of the major factors that have contributed to the growth," the company said.

BEC said the challenging projects it completed in recent times involved the laying of 125km of the 132kV Nizwa-Ibri overhead line in 12 months and 20MW of diesel power at various stations in 22 weeks.

"With the diverse experience in projects, the division is fully geared to undertaking further challenges in the utilities and petrochemicals sectors within Oman and the UAE," it said.

Commenting on the Electrical Products Division, BEC said its wide range of products had been associated with many of the leading projects it had executed or was in the process of executing in the Sultanate.

The division covers a wide range of items such as wiring cables, control/instrumentation and power cables, termination kits, cable trays, trunkings and ladders, OHTL conductors, insulators, wood poles and OHTL hardware accessories and fittings.

The range also covers LV and HV switchgear, control and relay panels, auto reclosures, ring main units, power and distribution transformers, earthing and lightning protection instruments, bus ducts, fire alarm systems and solar energy systems, among other things.
