Basic Chemical Industries (BCI), a 100 per cent Saudi-owned establishment founded in 1973, has over the years gone through a series of expansions and innovations, making it the largest privately owned chemical company in Saudi Arabia and an important supplier of top-quality products to the Saudi industrial and consumer markets.
Subsequent to the commissioning of BCI's first chloralkali plant in 1975, producing chlorine, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite, demand quickly outstripped supply and in just two years the capacity was doubled.
In 1983, the mercury cell plant was supplemented with a new plant four times the size of the original, using the then state-of-the-art membrane technology recently updated.
"Being only the sixth company in the world to use this advanced pollution-free technology, the process ensures extremely high-purity end products," a company spokesman noted.
Both chloralkali units utilise local raw materials and are monitored using the latest computerised technology. "As with BCI's other manufacturing facilities, the chloralkali plants are operated to stringent international safety and quality-control standards," the spokesman said.
In step with the expanding requirements of the Saudi Arabian industrial sector, BCI's activities are developing and manufacture of the following ranges of products has been introduced: water treatment chemicals; industrial maintenance, laundry and janitorial products; customised chemical blending; construction industry chemicals; admixtures and auxiliaries.
BCI has its headquarters in the Eastern Province of the kingdom with its manufacturing plant and main storage facilities sprawled over its own 200,000 sq m site beside Dammam's First Industrial City.
The company has for more than 20 years been supporting the Saudi industrial and consumer markets by providing high quality chemical products.
"From the outset, the company's expansion and innovation programmes have been a continuous process of adopting the latest methods of research and production which has maintained BCI as the leader in its field," the spokesman said.
