The Jotun paints group, which has a diversified range of coatings to meet even the most demanding corrosion problems, has stressed the importance of selecting the right kind of paint to protect buildings from degenerating and preserve investments that have gone into them while also maintaining the cosmetic appearance of the structures.

Highlighting Jotun's services, the company said it had for many years put great emphasis on providing training both internally and externally for all coating advisors and sales staff to enable them to give correct advice to clients. That training could also be extended to clients in the form of the Jotun Paint School.

Jotun has a diversified range of coatings to meet even the most demanding corrosion problems." These cover traditional epoxy coatings of the Penguard range as well as mastic epoxies Jotamastic / Primastic which provide superior wetting properties, excellent penetration and very high adhesion values.

Jotamastic is applied to over 40 million sq m of steel structures per year. The Baltoflake range of glass flake polyester offers high-build film thickness of up to 1.5 mm per coat, a company text said, adding that it was a fast-drying coating that offered superior abrasion resistance and the strongest protection against mechanical and environmental attack.

Jotun also has a wide range of tank linings including Tankguard storage. A two-pack phenolic epoxy applied in two coats at 250 microns is said to offer excellent chemical resistance with a wide variety of chemicals. Further internal protection for tanks can be obtained from Chemflake, a glass flake vinyl ester coating which is applied at up to 1.5 mm, can withstand high temperature storage and is resistant to most acids. Other products in the tank lining range can be used to meet the most demanding of internal lining requirements. Along with the decorative, floor coating and intumescent coatings Jotun promotes its single source solution concept for structures as diverse as an oil rig and a tower block.
