Industrial coding and marking solutions provider Domino Printing Sciences' UAE office at the Jebel Ali Free Zone has reported a 40 per cent spurt in business over the past three years.
The Jebel Ali branch was set up in 1989 by Domino UK and followed what the company said was the "remarkable success" of its business operations and the growing importance with which the Middle East and Africa region was viewed.
The new office aimed to maximise support and backup to existing and future customers.
"Domino-Dubai, being committed to total customer satisfaction, strives to ensure that a well-stocked inventory is maintained at all times. All our sales and service engineers are factory-trained and well experienced in the field," a company spokesman said. "With an organisation of 15 people, there is a strength and depth that no other industrial coding and marking company in the region can match." Founded in Cambridge, England, more than 20 years ago, Domino Printing Sciences is now a world leader in the manufacture and supply of industrial ink jet and laser printing equipment used where customers need to print or code variable information onto their products. The company has a turnover in excess of £150 million, over 1500 employees worldwide, offices in over 16 countries, joint ventures and partner distributors in almost every country of the world.
Domino manufactures and assembles its products at a number of locations around the world, including three sites in the UK and three in the US, and has implemented the international quality assurance accreditation ISO 9000, which now applies to several of its subsidiary offices including ones in the UK, US, Spain, France, The Netherlands and China. "Customer loyalty is key to our company philosophy. Exceptional product reliability, performance and unrivalled customer service have helped us to achieve an impressive reputation as one of the best in our field," the spokesman said. Domino's coding solutions range from printing identification codes such as freshness dates on food and beverages to lot and serial numbers on components and products in industries ranging from construction and automotive to food, beverage, pharmaceuticals and many more.
Solutions for on-line personalisation of printed and bound products and sequential numbering and addressing for large-volume mailings are produced using Domino's world leading print and control systems.
Domino is strengthening its leading position in the outer case coding market with the announcement of a new range designed for total reliability and offering improved print quality, greater flexibility and significant cost savings to a broad spectrum of manufacturers.
The Domino C-Series outer case coding systems are suitable for everything from basic large-character applications to sophisticated networking solutions.
At the top of the range is a high-definition printer, which can produce real-time, variable data, multiple-line text, on-line graphics and all major bar codes on to porous outer-case cartons. This technology also offers networking solutions for complete connectivity and greater control over printing, allowing centralised control of factory-wide coding integrated into the production process. Pigmented oil-based inks are used with the high-definition model to ensure an exceptionally sharp contrast even on brown board.
Manufacturers seeking high quality but low-cost printing are offered the C-Series valve jet printer, which uses water-based inks and is capable of line speeds of up to 35 metres a minute, producing text from 10mm to 68mm high.
"Whatever printer is chosen, the key benefits to manufacturers are savings on the cost of labels by printing directly onto cartons and by eliminating the need for in-house stocks of pre-printed cases," the company said. Cartons are easier to recycle after use. Domino's product manager for outer case coding Mike Hurst said: "The C-Series also enhances efficiency because it reduces box inventory and stock planning - all that is needed are blank cases to code onto.
"The C-Series is also exceptionally reliable - using proven technology for minimum downtime and maximum productivity." In addition, there is total flexibility with the C-Series, which has international language capabilities, large memory storage for frequent product changes and interfaces for ancillary devices such as product detector, shaft encoders, PC links and other serial communications.
The Cambridge-based global coding company recently took the honours at PPMA, the UK's leading manufacturing show, winning two top awards for outstanding export achievement and customer service.
The company beat off competition from home and overseas to secure The Robert King Medal for pushing exports to more than 88 per cent of all sales and The John Downing Memorial Medal for exceptional customer service.
Judges highlighted the special relationship developed by Domino with Nestle UK during a major new coding project at its York factory.
