Victaulic valve for upstream oil

Victaulic is the world’s leading producer of grooved mechanical couplings and pipe-joining systems

Victaulic, the world’s leading manufacturer of mechanical pipe-joining systems, has introduced the Series 727 ball valve, a high-pressure, enhanced port, Nace-compliant valve with grooved ends for upstream oil applications. The Series 727 provides excellent flow characteristics and enables quick and easy installation and maintenance.

The internal design of the Series 727 ball valve has been streamlined to provide superior flow characteristics, offering improved throughput. Flow testing demonstrated up to one-third better flow than competitive standard port ball valves.

Featuring grooved ends, the Series 727 ball valve is joined using Victaulic couplings, enabling quicker and easier installation and maintenance than flanged valves. The Series 727 weighs one-third less than equivalent flanged valves, further easing handling and installation.

The two-piece valve features a floating ball for lower torque requirements, and is offered with manual handles with an integral tamper-resistant lock/seal. The Series 727 is designed for full open or shut-off service.

Series 727 valves can accommodate pressures of up to 1,500 psi (10,350 kPa) and are available in sizes ranging from two to 6 inches (50 to 150 mm). Common oilfield applications include wellhead hookups, flow lines, production headers, produced water lines, heater-treaters, separators, tank battery and salt water disposal, among others.

Meanwhile, Victaulic, received type approvals from DNV (Det Norske Veritas) for its Vic-300 MasterSeal butterfly valves – Series 761 and Vic-Check check valves – Series 716 and 716H.

The approval certificates are valid until end June 2017 and cover Class III piping systems for fresh water cooling, condensate return, non-essential systems, sanitary drains and non-essential service air.

Vic-300 MasterSeal butterfly valves have DNV Type Approval in the size range DN50 – 300 (2 – 12 inches) with a pressure rating of 21 bar (300 psi) and a temperature range from 0 – 121°C (32 – 250°F).

The Vic-300 valve bodies and discs are manufactured from ductile iron conforming to ASTM A-536, with electroless nickel coating conforming to ASTM B-773 on the discs. A choice of EPDM, Nitrile or Fluorelastomer seat is available. Designed for use with grooved couplings, they may also be used with Vic-Flange adapters Style 741.

These valves offer improved flow and a better sealing performance as well as a longer life expectancy than most conventional valves. The unique design of the offset disc and two-piece stem increases flow and reduces operating torque up to 35 per cent, and provides a 360-degree bubble-tight seal. The pressure-enhanced rubber seat within the valve body seals equally on both sides of the valve, minimising long-term wear and maximising service life.

Additionally, the MasterSeal valves are easier to install and maintain due to their lighter weight and infinitely variable positioning within the piping network. Traditional flanged end valves are much heavier and can only index to the next available bolt hole position when aligning the control lever or gear operator. These features make the MasterSeal valve a clear and easy choice for vessel owners, operators and their crew members.
