Sabic to build steel plants
SABIC plans to build two steel plants on Saudi Arabia’s Gulf coast for its affiliate Hadeed. One plant, in Jubail, will have a processing capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year (tpy) and the other, in Rabigh, one million tpy, Sabic said, adding it reached an agreement with the oil ministry for fuel to power the plants.

MoU signed for Bahrain plant
BAHRAIN-based Al Ansari Group and Associated has signed an agreement with a Yemeni group to set up a concrete mixer utilities company in Bahrain.

Al Ansari’s partner is the Yemen-based Dr Abdulaziz Abdulhamid Al Mekhlafi Group of Companies (AAA Group). The deal was signed at the 16th Arab-German Business Forum in Berlin.

The two will build a plant for concrete mixer utilities, later expanding into other steel items. They will work closely with leading German components suppliers including Bosch.

Dubal awards HRSGs deal
DEUTSCHE Babcock and consortium partner Bilfinger Babcock CZ have secured an order from Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) for the replacement of five new heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) at its Jebel Ali power plant.

After conversion, the plan’s steam capacity will rise 24 per cent from 180 t/h to 228 t/h per F9BE HRSG. The noise level will also be effectively reduced to 85 dBA.

Clemens Wolters, COO of Bilfinger Deutsche Babcock Middle East, said: “This latest agreement is further evidence of our strong long-term business relationships with Dubal and other major operators in the region, and serves as a testament to the high quality of our deliveries.”

Masdar students’ feat
MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology has said three students have successfully completed a semiconductor chip design using Globalfoundries’ 65 nm process.

Processing of the 65 nm wafers, taped-out at the institute, is expected to be finished at Globalfoundries within weeks. Tape-out is the final part of the design cycle before a ‘photo-mask’ is manufactured.

Globalfoundries is owned by Advanced Technology Investment Company, a Mubadala Company.
