WITH several years of high growth behind it, Kermel, the European market leader in the manufacture of meta-aramid fibres for flame and heat resistant protective clothing, is banking on the results of a major research and innovation drive.
Its Kermel brand is a special type of meta-aramid known as a polyamide-imide, which makes products using its fibres inherently non-flammable for life without the need for chemical treatment, the company claims. It is spun-dyed during the manufacturing process.
“Our unique selling points include easy care, choice of many colours, high comfort levels and no colour fading over time due to our specialist production process,” it said. “Kermel fibre provides excellent thermal insulation, as well as good mechanical resistance and resistance to chemicals. Kermel-based garments are comfortable and very pleasant to the touch.”
Kermel is used by fire fighters and by military, police and industry professionals. The company says it has solutions for the gas, petroleum, electric utility, welding, railways and automotive sectors.
Protective clothing made from Kermel fibres comply with European, North American and international standards related to clothing for protection against heat and flames, liquid chemical, electrostatic hazards, electrical arcs, molten metal, heat flashes and welding.
