POWER and automation leader ABB will construct a 110/13.8 kv substation in Jeddah following a deal it signed with Ewaan Global Residential Company.

The move is aimed at generating power for Ewaan’s SR1.2 billion ($319 million) Alfareeda residential project being developed in the north of Jeddah.

 The contract was signed by Fahad Al Mutawae, CEO of Ewaan, and Ahmed Al Hares, vice president of ABB Saudi Arabia and manager for the western region.

Al Mutawae expressed great satisfaction at the co-operation with ABB Saudi Arabia, which he said was renowned for its precision in executing electro-feeding projects.

The substation will provide all the electricity required to meet the needs of the Alfareeda project, he said.

Designed to meet the home ownership aspirations of Saudi’s middle class, the Alfareeda project consists of more than 2,000 residential units located on 1 million sq m of land.

The project will be fully equipped with an advanced infrastructure and service facilities including a state-of-the-art telecommunications network, electricity lines, water supply, sewage system and rain bypass tanks. A well planned road network is designed to avoid traffic conjunctions.

“Given the kingdom’s high temperatures for most of the year, reliability of power supply is of the utmost importance and we will draw on ABB’s long experience and in-depth expertise in the Saudi market to ensure maximum efficiency in delivery and performance,” Al Mutawae stated.

Al Mutawae said the signing of the contract was a major step forward and puts the project on target according to the scheduled phasing.

Commenting on the win, Al Hares said, “We are very pleased at partnering with Ewaan to provide power supply for the Alfareeda project which is going to be done in accordance with the highest global standards and with every respect for the environment and the architectural integrity of the project.”
