SIEMENS has been awarded a €26 million ($35 million) contract by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority which covers switchgear, a power transformer, shunt reactors and a full monitoring system for a substation in Mushrif, Dubai. The substation will replace existing Dewa infrastructure and provide electricity to strategic Dewa customers.
The company will build a turnkey 132 kV/33 kV high voltage substation in Mushrif. Replacing existing Dewa infrastructure it will provide electricity to such strategic Dewa customers as the Dubai Royal Air Wing terminal and major shopping malls in the area, among others.
“We have the necessary know-how and project experience for creating turnkey high-voltage installations. Depending on the project specifications we take on responsibility for the whole project - from planning and erection to commissioning and handover to the customer,” said Wolfgang Braun, head of Power Transmission Middle East at Siemens LLC. Siemens is looking back at more than 20 years of successful collaboration with Dewa, with the first gas-insulated switchgear delivered in 1991.

The project, which will be completed over a year and a half, also includes a 132/33 kV 75 MVA power transformer, four 40 MVAr shunt reactors, complete balance of plant equipment, civil design and construction works.
