Kuwait Pipe Industry & Oil Service Company (KPIOS) has announced it has been commissioned by contractor Combined Group to produce 91,360 m of carbon steel spirally welded pipes with a diameter of 64 inches and wall thickness of 0.625 inches.
The pipes have to be coated with three layers of polypropylene and internally cement lined for a Kuwait Ministry of Water project.
KPIOS has signed an agreement with the same contractor for the construction and maintenance of five fresh water steel pipelines that will extend from Kuwait’s Mina Abdullah WDC II to West Funaitees, a distance of 91 km.
Another client, MECC Kuwait, placed a purchase order for coating 14 km of steel pipes with high density polyethylene (HDPE).
KPIOS recently delivered to ABB some 117,387 m of carbon steel spirally welded pipes with a diameter of 30 inches and wall thickness of 0.500 inch. It also externally coated with HDPE a new Kuwait Oil Company 30 inch diameter crude oil transit pipeline TL 4 that extended from North Kuwait to Central Mixing Maifold.
“Demand is rising in the country in line with the 25-year development plan which includes mega infrastructure projects. This has opened many opportunities to the market. The fifth refinery project by Kuwait Petroleum Company is another major project on the horizon,” said a KPIOS spokesman.
“KPIOS is fully committed to meeting customer demands thanks to expansions in production lines as well as establishing new production lines. Our strategy is to enter new markets in the Gulf and wider Middle East,” said the spokesman.
An LSAW mill is expected to be commissioned by early next year with capacity of 288,000 tonnes per year.
The company makes helical seam welded carbon steel pipes at five production lines with annual capacity of 225,000 tonnes. They are produced in ranges from 16 to 80-inch outer diameter and thickness from 0.188 inch to 1 inch with steel grade AP15L up to X70.
These pipes have applications for oil, gas and water and for structural and marine piling, among other things.
The coating plant can coat externally three layers of HDPE and three layers of polypropylene. It also offers external fusion bonded epoxy coating and internal liquid epoxy lining.
