New Zayani firm bags contracts

Zayani Polymer woven polypropylene rolls

Zayani Polymer Factory, which recently opened at the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) to manufacture polypropylene (PP) woven sacks, polyethylene (PE) greenhouse film, construction rolls and a number of allied products, has already won contracts to supply its products to companies in the GCC region and Iraq.

Operational since last April, Zayani Polymer has been supplying to Saudi Grain and Fodder Company, Al Yaseen Agricultural Co and Said Ali Ghodran & Sons (all in Saudi Arabia), Burgan Agricultural Company (Kuwait) and Al Reef (Iraq).

Zayani Polymer is a subsidiary of the JA Zayani & Sons Group and its main shareholders are Mohammad Jasim Al Zayani and Nael Jasil Al Zayani.

The company’s finance director Varghese Karakkal said the new factory was built and equipped to the highest industry standards using the latest European technology, machinery and technical support. The facilities include an R&D laboratory which, he said, would enable the company to stay ahead of trends so new products could be brought to market.

“We use 100 per cent recyclable technology with no waste or harmful emissions,” assured the official. Raw materials for production are sourced from within the GCC region, mainly Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The plan is to serve markets in the GCC area and also throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. The company is closely looking at Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Yemen where it sees growth opportunities for its young business. At a later stage, it hopes to tap into the European market.

The company expects to notch up sales of BD3 million ($7.95 million) in its first year of operation, of which BD2.4 million would come from exports.

Zayani Polymer’s plant has capacity to produce annually 40 million polypropylene woven sacks, 5,000 tonnes of polyethylene greenhouse film and several other products such as shopping bags, trash bags, liner bags, storage bags and food storage bags.

The PP woven sacks the company makes are heavy duty, dust-proof and resistant to water, oil and punctures, according to Karakkal.

“The PE film is produced in widths of up to 900 cm, one of the largest in the Middle East,” said the official. PE greenhouse film is widely used in agricultural production thanks to its ability to reduce the effect of sun rays.

The company’s PE construction roll is available in thickness ranging from 50 to 250 micron.

The 6,000 sq m facility was built at an investment of $11 million on a plot of 11,000 sq m, providing ample space for expansions.

Zayani Polymer will be an exhibitor at Gulf Industry Fair in February at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
