Emco and SBG-PCM (now PCMC) won the Best Water Project of the Year award for their collaboration on the nano-filtration project in Hail, Saudi Arabia.
Designed to generate pure drinking water for one million people in Hail province, the plant when completed will be the largest of its kind in the Middle East and the second largest nano-filtration system worldwide. The award was presented during the Annual H2O Water Awards held recently at the Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.
Maximise recovery system
Emco and SBG-PCM’s 150,000 cu m/day nano-filtration project is being jointly constructed by Emco and Saudi Bin Ladin Group (SBG)’s PCM division for the Saudi Ministry of Water and Electricity, Hail Directorate. The project was given top honors for its efficient use of technology to maximise recovery and for its small energy footprint.
“The project had many challenges, namely the high level of radium in the source water and the client’s requirement to maximise water recovery with the smallest energy footprint,” said the regional manager of Emco Elie Shalhoub. “After detailed analysis and weighing different technologies, the nano-filtration process was selected to achieve the highest recovery possible with minimal adverse environmental impact, furthering our commitment to keep the planet blue,” he added.
H2O Water Awards 2011 celebrates the outstanding achievements of the Middle East and North Africa water industry. These awards recognise projects, big and small, that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the region’s water industry. The H2O water awards are organised by Dubai-based Corporate Publishing International (CPI), a business and consumer publication company in the region.
