Honeywell, one of the world's leading diversified technology and manufacturing organisations, has put together solutions that have a wide range of applications including ones in safety and security that could have uses in areas including airports, industrial complexes, offices, shopping centres and homes.
Honeywell's Enterprise Service Solutions, Middle East, offers fire and security solutions for buildings and facilities throughout the region.
Honeywell Middle East is headquartered in Abu Dhabi and is responsible for operations in Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the Levant countries.
"The latest offering from Honeywell is the Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), which is a revolutionary suite of integrated facility management applications," says the company. "It is designed to give you complete control of your buildings while offering unrivalled integration with your business process."
Within Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator are powerful software applications such as Honeywell LifeSafety Manager, Building Manager and Security Manager.
The EBI uses client-server architecture on Win 2000 to provide cost-effective scalability to any enterprise without the need for proprietary hardware.
Operator stations can be connected using a variety of standard TCP/IP such as LAN and WAN as well as serial and dial-up access.
Databases and applications can be integrated to provide various local, network and Internet access to monitoring, control, past performance and management reporting.
Consolidating data allows customers to generate reliability statistics for equipment and subsystems.
By integrating Life Safety systems and giving facility staff the earliest possible warning of potential smoke or fire conditions, unnecessary evacuations can be avoided, reducing downtime as well as costly smoke damage to computer equipment.
In airports, facility capacity is always a critical issue. Honeywell EBI can help airports get the most out of their facility by interfacing with Flight Information and Display Systems, allowing airports to control gate lighting and HVAC automatically with actual versus scheduled flight departures and arrival times.
Honeywell EBI also helps by integrating security and life safety functions so facility managers can minimise the chance of a security breach or a fire, which could close a terminal for hours.
EBI also helps by integrating with airport management systems to enhance equipment utilisation and performance.
"Honeywell's Enterprise Service Solutions business provides solutions and services that help customers improve their productivity and competitiveness by improving their overall building and facility performance," says Nigel R MacKenzie, area marketing development manager, Honeywell Middle East, H&BC, Enterprise Service Solutions.
"These solutions and services include building automation and integrated building management systems; air flow and fumehood controls; and comprehensive facility infrastructure improvements financed through guaranteed energy savings and a building information management system and services.
"Other solutions and services include security services, including burglary and fire protection, access control, video surveillance, and maintenance and monitoring; after-sales support to commercial building customers, such as mechanical equipment, temperature control, building management and life safety advanced services."
Customers for the solutions are original equipment manufacturers, commercial customers, governments and homeowners serviced by distributor, wholesaler, contractor, builder and utility channels; architects and developers and building managers and owners.
The customer list also covers consulting engineers; contractors; distributors; HVAC manufacturers; security directors; and buying influencers in the education, health care, airport and industrial facilities markets; local and central governments, and retail stores.
The EBI is promoted as providing a single source for enterprise productivity - a single system that pulls together all core building systems and integrates information from many different enterprise subsystems from industrial manufacturing and process automation to financial and personal records, environmental controls and data warehouses.
The Honeywell Security Manager, an application of the Honeywell EBI, is a highly configurable security management system that provides unprecedented control and management over security operations.
Honeywell Security Manager's advanced features include a powerful Microsoft Windows-based graphical user interface; distributed monitoring and control of up to 40 local and remote workstations and graphic displays one can customise to provide detailed site maps and better manage critical information.
Also featured are an interface to leading third-party CCTV controllers; Microsoft SQL 7.0 server database for cardholder data; structured alarm management that provides an action plan and associated display information for consistent alarm handling; a fully integrated photo identification badging system; flexible configuration reports and industry-standard networking.
Another software application within the system, the Honeywell Lifesafety Manager, offers a high-performance system for monitoring, controlling, storing and responding to information from the facility's network of fire-alarm controllers.
"The LifeSafety Manager is UL-listed for providing primary monitoring and full control of a building's smoke- and fire-detection, sprinkler supervisory and emergency communication systems," says the company.
"Operators can acknowledge alarms, command points, and reset the system at their workstation. There is no need to perform these functions from a separate UL-listed fire-alarm panel or PC," says the company.
The Honeywell Building Manager, another application of the Honeywell EBI, is described as a high-performance, open system for facility management applications.
The system is fully integrated with the Microsoft Win 2000 Operating System and provides tools and data to better manage a building environment.
The benefits include tighter control over operational parameters, better energy management tracking and consolidation, benchmaking across multiple sites, metrics on alarm activity and operator actions, better management-level reporting and optimisation strategies with business-level integration.
The Honeywell digital video manager (DVM), another high-performance Enterprise solution, is a product of Honeywell technology and integration expertise.
"The DVM is a scalable, digital closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance solution that sets a new standard in cost-effectiveness, flexibility and performance," says Honeywell.
The video images are stored in Honeywell DVM's database where they quickly can be located and viewed using its advanced search capabilities.
The Honeywell digital CCTV solution features tight integration with the Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator, permitting event- and alarm-activated recording so that one can capture only the footage one needs and when it is most needed.
Honeywell also has a range of security solutions components under Temaline creative solutions.
The Temakey is a totally new concept in reader technology. It is highly modular and provides a range comprising more than 45 devices.
The Temakey is promoted as a revolutionary peripheral device to access the Temaline solution bringing friendliness to the everyday working routine. More than 45 peripheral devices can be built up from 20 basic modules allowing a highly modular system that gives the user virtually any configuration to match the need of its own installation, says the company.
In a description of the product it says all TemaKey are LonWorks compatible for a simple (two wire) and advanced connection, while opening to the connectivity of third-party devices. Multiple card technology includes proximity (three versions), smart card, magnetic stripe and Weigand.
The TemaServer sets new standards in the managing system information. Its principal design concepts include system reliability and availability, reducing the management load on the supervisory system and multi-application and multi-functional controllers.
