Infinity Libya, a subsidiary of Infinity Group, a dedicated renewable energy solutions provider in Egypt, and Al-Jouf Free Zone have officially completed and handed over the country's first-ever 1 MW solar power plant located in Kufra.
The project, which was handed over in May, is now fully operational - marking a major milestone in the country’s transition toward renewable energy.
This achievement comes just eight months after the signing of the agreement last year, thus demonstrating an exceptional pace of development and execution.
Infinity Libya said the plant, with a planned capacity of 1.14 MWp, was developed in collaboration with Lamsa Company for General Contracting and Real Estate Investment as the main contractor.
The project is now run entirely by a trained team of Infinity Libya-employed local engineers, reflecting Infinity’s commitment to local empowerment and knowledge transfer, it stated.
The solar plant will produce up to 2,182 MWh of clean electricity annually, directly supplying the energy needs of the Al-Jouf Free Zone.
It is expected to save approximately 545,000 liters of diesel per year and reduce carbon emissions by around 1,300 tons, contributing meaningfully to environmental sustainability and energy diversification in Libya.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Co-founder and Chairman of Infinity, said: "Delivering this project ahead of schedule is a proud moment for our team and for Libya. It signals what is possible when strong partnerships and local talent come together in service of a shared vision for clean, reliable energy."
"This solar plant is more than just a first for Libya — it is a model for sustainable development that we hope to replicate across the region. We strongly believe in Libya’s immense potential and the resilience, talent, and capabilities of its people to lead the country toward a more sustainable and prosperous future," he added.
Fahd Benhalim, Managing Director of Infinity Libya, said this project represents a turning point for renewable energy in Libya.
"With the Kufra plant now operational, we are not only reducing dependence on diesel but also laying the groundwork for more ambitious developments. We are actively working to expand renewables in key sectors including oil & gas, agriculture, and industry - ensuring that clean energy becomes a cornerstone of Libya’s future, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
