US-headquartered engineering consultancy Hill International announced that its consortium has secured a major contract for the extension of the Aïn Naâdja – Baraki metro line in the Algerian capital Algiers in collaboration with Entreprise Métro d' Alger.
The scope of work includes provision of design reviews, project management, construction as well as site supervision for the project.
Additionally, it will also oversee the supply, installation and commissioning of integrated systems, tracks, station finishing and synchronisation with existing metro lines, said Hill International in its LinkedIn account.
Early this month, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Lakhdar Rekhroukh revealed that two Algiers metro extension projects will be completed in the second half of 2026. These are the Aïn Naâdja-Baraki line and the El-Harrach-USTHB line.
The current length of the Algiers metro in service is 19 km, linking Martyrs' Square to Bachdjarah, then extending to El Harrach or Aïn Naâdja. After the commissioning of the extension to the airport and to Baraki, its total length will reach 33 km.
According to Hill International, this new contract reflects its commitment to Algeria and the evolution of the Algerian market for rail and guided transport, including metro and high-speed trains.
This new contract demonstrates Hill's performance in Algeria and its commitment to the country, while reflecting the development of the Algerian market for rail and guided transport, particularly in the field of metro and high-speed trains, it added.
Giving a project update, Rekhroukh said the civil engineering works on the two lines have been completed, while the work is under way on the remaining stages, including equipment and systems.
The El-Harrach-USTHB line is the first part of the metro extension project to Algiers International Airport.
The minister stated that these planned projects will allow, in the medium term, the Algiers metro to extend over 90 km.-TradeArabia News Service
