As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen a culture of safety and protect lives and assets, the Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Company (ASRY), represented by its Safety and Fire Department, recently organized advanced training sessions on the fundamentals of firefighting for a group of personnel from Bahrain's General Directorate of Civil Defence.
The sessions were held in co-operation with the General Directorate of Civil Defence at ASRY’s headquarters in the kingdom's Hidd area.
The programme focused on both theoretical and practical aspects tailored to the needs of firefighting in ship and offshore rigs repair yards.
The theoretical component covered the causes of fires in these settings, introduced the different types of firefighting equipment used on site, and outlined general guidance for tackling fires alongside the safety precautions that must be observed, said ASRY in a statement.
During the practical sessions, participants engaged in real-life simulations of fires on vessels and drilling rigs.
They were trained to extinguish flames using suitable equipment according to the source of ignition, and they carried out evacuation and rescue drills in confined spaces to ensure a quick and effective response in emergencies, it stated.
On the advanced firefighting training ASRY’s Deputy CEO Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Khalifa, said: "We place great importance on strengthening our partnerships with government bodies and private organisations in a way that reinforces safety and security frameworks at ASRY in particular and across industrial institutions in general."
"ASRY has been holding specialist, practical sessions on a regular basis for its employees and partners in the same field, with the aim of raising the readiness of safety teams," he stated.
"We also value the outstanding efforts of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, whose close cooperation has had a major impact on the success of this training and the achievement of its goals, particularly in improving the effectiveness of joint field work," he added.
This initiative forms part of ASRY’s strategy to reinforce safety and security practices in the workplace. The top shipbuilding company said it remains keen to hold similar training sessions on a regular basis for its employees, contractors and partner institutions, in order to develop practical skills and ensure effective handling of emergency situations, whilst maintaining the utmost levels of safety at worksites in an efficient and professional manner.-TradeArabia News Service
