EnerMech, a specialist service company, said it has clinched a multi-million-dollar asset integrity management services contract from South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, for its Worsley Alumina refinery in the South West of Western Australia.
The three-year agreement, with extension options, sits under EnerMech’s Infrastructure and Industrial Solutions business line, which specializes in all aspects of engineered solutions for land-based energy and industrial developments across the full asset lifecycle.
The scope of work includes inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), rope access and insulation services at the refinery near Collie, approximately 200 km south of Perth.
The Worsley Alumina operation integrates bauxite mining near Boddington with alumina refining, producing powder for export to aluminium smelters worldwide, including South32’s Hillside and Mozal aluminium smelters in Southern Africa.
Since commencing operations in 1984, the facility has grown to become one of the largest alumina refineries globally, it stated.
EnerMech has maintained a continuous presence at the site since 2019, supporting operations with a dedicated core crew and scaling resources during major shutdowns.
This approach has enabled the delivery of consistent performance and strong collaboration with South32’s operations teams.
On the big contract win, Charles ‘Chuck’ Davison Jr., the CEO of EnerMech, said: "This new three-year minimum award reflects the strength of our long-standing partnership with South32 and our commitment to delivering safe, efficient and high-quality maintenance services."
"Having worked alongside South32 at Worsley for a number of years, we understand the critical importance of reliability and performance at a site of this scale," he stated.
"This contract is an important step forward in our strategy to continue delivering value for our customers and growing within the onshore infrastructure and industrial market, where precision and compliance are non-negotiable," noted Davison.
EnerMech VP Infrastructure & Industrial Solutions, Ahmed Yostry Mohamed said: "Our team on the ground has a proven track record for safe and responsive delivery at Worsley."
"The permanent maintenance crew brings specialist expertise in inspection, NDT and rope access, with the ability to scale resources during peak shutdowns to keep operations running smoothly," stated Mohamed.
"By combining technical know-how with a strong safety culture, we give South32 confidence that its refinery will continue to operate efficiently and meet the demands of a world-class facility," he added.
South32 owns 86% of Worsley Alumina, with 10% held by Japan Alumina Associates (Australia) Private Ltd and the remaining 4% held by Sojitz Alumina Private Ltd.
The refinery is a key contributor to the Western Australian economy and is one of the largest private sector employers in the Peel and South West regions.
The firm injects more than AU$1 million per day into the local economy through wages, local business spend and community investment. TradeArabia News Service
