The Bushnak Group, which helped found Kindasa Water Services, has played a pioneering role in establishing local water industries, while also promoting water privatisation and water-saving technologies for deep root trees and seawater-based agriculture.
Bushnak provides innovative technical and financial solutions to establish profitable businesses that fulfill local needs. The group was co-founded by the brothers Adil and Faisal Bushnak. In addition to water, it is active in the fields of environment, energy, education, communication, advertising, and trade.
The Kindasa plant, located in the Jeddah Islamic Port, was the first private sea water desalination plant in Saudi Arabia to ease the water shortage in the Industrial City and is considered to be Saudi Arabia’s largest fully private owned water desalination facility. The Bushnak family has been associated with water desalination for over 30 years. They co-founded the first Saudi supplier of desalination systems and the first Saudi water membrane manufacturing company. At present, Bushnak is actively developing several privately owned desalination plants in Saudi Arabia and India.
In addition to water and the environment, the group was also keen on strengthening their services in other fields. From advertising to developing high-tech energy-saving technologies, the Bushnaks are always keen on combining innovation with global expansion.
Dar Al Taqniya (DAT), conducted the design review of the Kindasa Phase B as well as commissioning and erecting the phased facilities. The project was supported by another group company, Wesco.
DAT and Wesco had also rendered complementary services for Phase A of the Kindasa plant.
DAT is an engineering consultancy firm specialising in desalination and water reuse.
“We provide process and detailed design for water treatment plants and systems and can achieve maximum efficiency with minimum water life cycle cost,” a company spokesman says. “DAT keeps up to date with the latest technological developments, constantly testing, developing and perfecting new solutions as well as new products.”
The company is a leader in applying commercially viable solutions such as ultra-filtration and micro-filtration, UF/MF pretreatment for seawater, integrated membrane solutions, and membrane bio reactors (MBR) for wastewater reuse. It is also a local pioneer in achieving the highest RO recovery and performance standards for seawater desalination in the Arab World. The company has accomplished this through pilot studies and partnership with global technology partners.
Wesco is a unique company that combines engineering expertise with project development activities. It executes turnkey projects and supports development and innovations in water treatment. “We specialise in utilising the best and latest technology for the production of fresh water from saline and brackish water, treatment of waste water and creation of eco-friendly agriculture in the desert,” Ibrahim Bushnak, group marketing and sales manager, declares.
“We have extensive experience in sea water desalination technology and waste water reuse, and our focus is on service. The company is a known success in forming the perfect package of partners in different projects.”
Another Bushnak company engaged in the water field is Advanced Technical Equipment Import Company Ltd (ATEICO), which specialises in the procurement and supply of various water and energy products and spare parts.
The company represents many of the world’s prestigious industrial brands and has emerged as a well-known technical service provider in Saudi Arabia, and other countries. The company’s offices are located in Jeddah, Riyadh, Mumbai and Auckland. Among the products it represents are Met-Pro Corporation (pumps) and Fybroc Division.
Dr Adil Bushnak is an active entrepreneur recognised locally and internationally for his efforts in promoting desalination technology and privatisation of water services. He was elected as the president of International Desalination Association (1987-89).
He co-founded several companies in manufacturing, contracting, engineering and operation of water systems and saline agriculture and served as a member of several high-level government councils including the Supreme Economic Council. He also served as a board member of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Saudi Council of Engineers.
