A Kuwait gathering centre ... limited impact from GC-25 shutdown

Kuwait has shut a 250,000 barrels per day crude oil gathering centre for planned maintenance works, a move which marginally cut oil production by the Opec nation, a Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) official said.

The official said the major gathering centre (GC-25) in Rawdatain oilfield in northern Kuwait was shutdown and was likely to be brought back onstream in about 10 days.
The outage will have a minimal impact on overall crude output of about 2.2 million bpd to 2.3 million bpd by Kuwait, a member of the Opec, he said.
“The impact is very limited,” the official said. “It’s only fractional; since this centre is bigger than other centres, it may be a decline of 30,000 bpd to 40,000 bpd.”
The official added: “All the time one GC will be shutdown for planned maintenance. This is the nature of the maintenance of these facilities ... We have a regular schedule that we follow.”
He said there were currently 21 gathering centres operating in oil fields across Kuwait.
A gathering centre is a specialised unit which separates crude oil from accompanying gas or water before the petroleum is pumped to giant storage facilities en route to export markets.
“Hopefully, the maintenance will not last that long, may be about 10 days or less. We are working hard, 24 hours a day, to make it operational,” the official said.
“Gathering Centre-25 has a capacity of 250,000 bpd. We have compensated about 200,000-bpd plus of that output from Burgan gathering centre,” the official added.
KOC is in charge of the upstream sector in Kuwait.
