Aveva eyes steel fabrication market

Following the acquisitions of FabTrol Systems last year and the Bocad group of companies in 2012, Aveva Solutions, a leading global provider of engineering, design and information management software solutions, is looking at strengthening its position in the Gulf steel fabrication market.

The company introduced its newest acquisition, Aveva FabTrol, to the regional market at the SteelFab show held in Sharjah, UAE, last month.

“We are targeting the fabrication market,” said Louis Khoury, senior vice president of operations MEA. “Aveva FabTrol software expands our fabrication portfolio and provides integration across the steel fabrication value chain.”

Aveva FabTrol is a modular fully integrated steel fabrication management software solution that includes state-of-the-art estimating, bill of materials, drawings, materials, production and shipping management tools. Designed to meet the real-world needs of steel fabricators in a fast-paced global marketplace, Aveva FabTrol goes well beyond job-by-job management to help fabricators to maximise both project and company profitability.

Other products offered by Aveva to the fabrication sector include Aveva Bocad, a 3D structural detailing and fabrication solution.

Commenting on the company’s decision to introduce Aveva FabTrol to the region at the SteelFab event, Khoury said: “The show is a great platform to initiate discussion with future clients. Thanks to our technical experts, we were able to provide live demos at our booth on-demand.”

The company had participated in SteelFab last year for the first time and its officials were very happy with the number and quality of people they met. They closed some deals following the event, recalled Khoury.

During the 2016 show, Aveva hosted a technical seminar on the future of steel fabrication utilising the latest software technology.

Last year the company opened an office in Saudi Arabia. The new office strengthens Aveva’s presence in the Middle East and enhances its global network.

“Saudi Arabia is a strategic location and positions Aveva to add even greater value to a growing client base in the Middle East. The office is an example of our continued investment to deliver local sales and support where our customers operate. It is important to provide service and support in local language and in accordance with local culture,” said Khoury.

PRODUCTS, PLANS

Recently the company launched its first cloud solution, Aveva Experience. This is an on-demand, self-training service that will enable users to upskill on Aveva products and solutions at their own pace, any time, from anywhere.

Khoury said: “The first training course available is for current Aveva PDMS users to discover the key differences between PDMS and Aveva Everything3D (Aveva E3D). As well as access to training materials such as video tutorials, users have the opportunity to get hands on with Aveva E3D with integrated laser capabilities for free, using a cloud-based deployment complete with project data.

“Aveva has redefined engineering decision support with the release of its exciting new software Aveva Engage that revolutionises collaborative decision-making across capital projects and operating assets. It combines the power of instant access to a digital asset’s full contextually-integrated information with an impressively simple and entirely intuitive touch-driven interface, all visualised and navigable in a striking Ultra-High Definition (UHD) whole-model view.”

Part of Aveva’s Future of Decision Support programme, Aveva Engage is bringing a new dimension to decision support for better, faster decisions across the life cycle.

Commenting on the company’s plans, Khoury said: “We continually look to enhance our portfolio, be it through brand new innovative solutions or enhanced versions of existing software, and seek growth opportunities based on complementary software.

“Expansion has been and will always be driven by customer requirement; it continues to be a mix of acquisition and organic growth.”

Established in 1967, Aveva Solutions is a British company headquartered in Cambridge. It has more than 55 offices around the world, including ones in Dubai (UAE), and Al Khobar (Saudi Arabia).

Employing 1,600 people, the company’s turnover in financial year 2014/2015 was $309.6 million.
