World-class technologies were in evidence at the popular Airport Show, organised by Reed Exhibitions Middle East and held in Dubai last month.


Some 300 exhibitors from east and west, among them iconic names, displayed products and services developed to beat competition and grow market share.


Beumer Group demonstrated high-efficiency, fully-automatic and semi-automatic baggage handling systems in the German pavilion. The industry’s first, high-speed tote-based baggage transport system has been certified to the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Standard 3 for in-tote screening using standard and extended tote sizes.


Smiths Detection exhibited its latest Checkpoint.Evo solution that can significantly enhance efficiencies at airports in the Middle East while also offering a fast and hassle free security experience. Besides Checkpoint.Evo, the company showcased the Ionscan 600, a next-generation, portable desktop system for detecting and identifying trace amounts of explosives.


Another product it displayed was the HazMatID 360, a handheld solid and liquid chemical identifier that performs an analysis in one minute or less, and the Sabre 5000 which is programmed to detect and identify over 40 threat substances in approximately 20 seconds.


The company attended the show with UAE orders in its background. It was awarded a $125 million contract to provide a host of advanced detection equipment for the nearly complete Abu Dhabi Airport Mid Field Terminal. It also successfully installed diverse advanced detection equipment for Emirates Group Security’s facility at Dubai World Central (DWC).


Cavotec Middle East is an old hand in the region. It showcased its latest innovation and breakthrough technologies, including advanced ground support equipment (GSE), fuel, water and power supply units, tunnel systems, pre-conditioned air units (PCAir), aircraft connectors and caddies. Apart from the new DX-Boost PCA System, Cavotec also highlighted products such as pop-up pit systems, 400 Hz power supply and aviation fuelling systems.


ADB Airfield Solutions presented to business visitors the industry’s most compact yet energy and cost-efficient power solution. Its compact and modular design can meet the needs of airports of all sizes. The company also unveiled LED-elevated approach lights which offer a smart, adaptable solution for approach as well as for taxiways and runway ends. 


Honeywell displayed smart technologies, such as RFID baggage tagging, SmartPath precision landing systems, and in-flight connectivity solutions which help in improving safety and efficiency at each stage of the passenger’s journey.  An on-stand airport terminal was set up at the Honeywell Airports Business booth   where visitors could experience some of Honeywell’s key airport technologies in action.


Barcelona-based Adelte showcased a new line of Preconditioned Air Unit (PCA) featuring a full inverter technology. The cutting-edge new equipment is designed for heating and cooling a wide variety of stationed aircraft in all climatic conditions. The engineering company also introduced its full range of Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) that ensures continuous and maximum effectiveness on the apron and guarantees safety and comfort for passengers and operators.


ADPI, a fully owned subsidiary of Aéroports de Paris, showcased its portfolio of projects which has made it a world leader in airport engineering and architecture.


ALEC Airport Systems revealed Specialised Airport Systems which, unlike traditional systems integrators, are vendor-neutral and client-focused.


Al Itqan presented a new bar code reader offering top-class reading performance and a superior system throughput for parcel sorting and baggage-handling applications and a new Datalogic high performance all-in-one solution for omnidirectional reading stations. Also in its portfolio is a Digital Laser Signal Elaboration technology and safety light curtains for body protection and access control. 


Anderson Airmotive displayed its Attachable Power Nose, a completely modular socket that has been successfully used in Europe, China and the US. Rockwell Collins unveiled the solution to reduce queues and keep passengers moving - ARINC vMUSE mobile.


Daniyal Qureshi, group exhibition director at Reed Exhibitions Middle East, expressed satisfaction over the high-profile exhibitors and the range of top-drawer technologies and services presented at the event.
