Switchgear venture planned JAPAN-based Hitachi and Saudi Arabia’s Walid Ahmad Juffali Company (WJCO) have announced plans to establish a joint venture in the gas-insulated switchgear business. Hitachi will hold a 51 per cent share in the new venture and WJCO 49 per cent, a statement said.

BAHRAIN will spend a total of BD15.6 million ($41.3 million) to strengthen and expand the national power grid. The expansion plan includes 60 medium-intensity projects (11 kW) costing BD11.4 million and 430 low-intensity pro-jects (BD4.2 million), a top official said.

ALUMINIUM Bahrain (Alba) reported lower sales revenues and a significantly reduced net income in Q1 compared to the same period in 2013 on the back of lower London Metal Exchange (LME) prices. Alba’s sales for the first quarter of 2014 reached $464 million (BD174.5 million) compared to $498 million in Q1 2013, down by 15 per cent.
