ALUMINIUM Bahrain (Alba) announced it achieved total sales of 919,722 tonnes in 2013, a 3.3 per cent increase over the previous year. FURTHER evidence that the Gulf construction market is booming comes from a private research organisation that estimates projects worth $83.4 billion are to be completed in 2014 compared with projects worth $69.91 billion completed in the previous year. OMAN Cables Industry Co has credited higher sales volumes and a reduction in production costs for an increase in 2013 net profit of 41.8 per cent compared with the previous year. Net profit surged to RO16.9 million ($43.7 million) against RO11.9 million in 2012.   Total sales increased to RO306.

INVESTMENTS at Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) from operational projects and other projects in various stages of development have reached BD689 million ($1.82 billion), the government has announced. Minister for Industry and Commerce Dr Hassan A Fakhro said 30 new investment projects were approved during 2013.

DAMEN Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) FZE, a joint venture between Damen Shipyards Group and Albwardy Marine Engineering, has officially opened for business. “DSS’ core activities will continue along the tried and trusted course of Damen new-builds and Albwardy’s conversions, dry-dockings and repairs,” a Damenstatement said.

EMRILL, a leading facilities management company in the UAE, has signed a deal with international energy services firm, Crowley Carbon, worth  up to Dh100 million ($27.2 million). The deal was announced during the Enterprise Ireland Trade and Investment Mission to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE.

A NEW Dugutak Core Laboratory at the Maersk Oil Research and Technology Centre (MO-RTC) in Doha, Qatar, was opened recently by Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed Bin Saleh Al Sada. The minister also witnessed the signing of a technology cooperation framework agreement between Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Maersk Oil.
