Tech park gets Huawei solution

The headquarters of Dubai Silicon Oasis

Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) has installed the first smart street solution in the Middle East region at the high-tech park.

The installation was achieved in collaboration with Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, DSOA announced.

The solution incorporates a number of advanced features geared towards creating a friendly and secure environment for the community. Digital signage capability allows real-time display of news and information, while the integrated Wi-Fi transmitter offers internet access within a 300 m radius. The CCTV solution ensures safety of businesses through intelligent surveillance while environmental sensors monitor outdoor temperature, humidity and air quality. The integrated nature of the solution means it is ‘future ready’ – or ready to add additional services and capabilities in a cost-effective and timely manner. In addition, the centrally controlled smart street solution allows greater energy efficiency and management.

Muammar Al Katheeri, vice president of engineering management at DSOA, said the latest development was part of the initiative to make Dubai one of the smartest and happiest cities in the world.

“DSO has demonstrated its ability to be the destination of choice for public and private entities with regards to excellence in implementing smart city initiatives. We are dedicated to researching and introducing smart city technologies on a sustained basis within our premises for the benefit of our tenants and residents and the wider UAE community,” Al Katheeri said.

“Our partnership with Huawei also strengthens DSOA’s position as a leader in implementing proof of concepts to achieve a smart city. The installation of the first smart street pole in DSO, will enable us in collaboration with our strategic partners to test this new smart solution in order to evaluate its scalability and feasibility for large-scale implementation across our high-tech park as well as the city of Dubai.”

The initiative is in line with the smart city vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Safder Nazir, vice president of smart cities and Internet of Things (IoT), Huawei Middle East, said: “Huawei’s Smart Street Solution delivers on a number of Dubai’s strategic initiatives and articulates the leadership’s vision to shape a smart Dubai through the adoption of more intelligent and connected city infrastructure.

Nazir said Huawei was honoured to support DSOA with its leading ICT technologies. “We are committed to public-private collaboration and actively support Dubai’s smart city initiatives. We are confident that Huawei’s smart street solution will help this dynamic city in achieving its smart city goals.”

Huawei Smart Street Solution is part of a portfolio that delivers expertise in end-to-end network planning and develops cutting-edge technologies through convening an integrated and open consortium of partners. Huawei’s capabilities also include delivering mobile and fixed broadband infrastructure and communication technology that integrates industry solutions and data centre innovations.

A wholly-owned entity of the government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone technology park for large enterprises and medium and small companies looking to set up their offices in Dubai.
