Milliken targets Mideast with portfolio

July 2011

MILLIKEN, a leading manufacturer of carbon neutral carpet tiles, recently put the spotlight on its extensive portfolio of products at The Office Exhibition in Dubai with the aim of targeting specifiers and designers in the Middle East.

The Office Exhibition, the Middle East’s largest office fit-out and design show, was held in May (17 to 19) at the Dubai World Trade Centre. At the show, Milliken presented its existing popular collections such as Fixation, as well as two new designs, Edit and Obscura, in the popular Consequence collection. The street-art inspired Paste Up collection was shown for the first time in the Middle East.

Milliken also displayed the striking broadloom carpets from the Constantine portfolio, including the NeoCon Gold winner Pallisades collection, highlighting the expanding diversity of the manufacturer.

With collections designed to cater for a broad spectrum of interiors, Milliken can provide architects and designers with carpet tiles that contain recycled content and that have carbon neutral certification, says a spokeswoman for the company.

Fixation is a modular carpet “for those with a fix on colour”, with 40 colours to choose from and all presented on a high-performance carbon neutral base, says the spokeswoman. Smart neutrals can add simple detailing, while richer reds, oranges and turquoise will give slabs of full-on colour and both can be complemented with sharp accent details. With Fixation, specifiers and designers can create a bespoke floor from an off-the-peg carpet tile range that focuses on everyday value and performance.

“Colour is a great way to signpost a building,” says the spokeswoman. “Fixation makes this possible, thanks to its diversity of colour. Whether way marking, company branding or creating feature areas, this contemporary classic brings colour flexibility at an everyday price point, delivering on-trend style and endless possibilities.”

Fixation is part of the Essentials Value tufted loop pile collection that combines an 85 per cent recycled cushion polyurethane backing for enhanced underfoot comfort, sound absorption and increased durability with performance nylon fibre featuring MilliGuard Plus soil guard and anti-microbial protection for appearance retention and a healthier indoor environment.

Equipped with the high-friction TractionBack coating, Fixation can also be installed without wet adhesives, meaning installing, moving and replacing carpet tiles is easier for the user and kinder for the environment.

Another modular carpet from Milliken Contract is Paste Up, which draws inspiration from the way ‘paste up’ art transforms the urban environment by bringing life to the remote nooks and crannies of the street.  Designed by Todd Van Der Kruik, it comprises a collection of five designs – Tessellate, Space Invader, Art Crime, Public Reaction and Negotiator – in a combination of tip shear and textured loop constructions. Through light and shadow, each mimics the notion of layering and creating texture where paper and glue meet uneven walls.

Paste Up provides office designers with easy-to-use coordinating scales and thematic approaches, making the collection suitable for a broad range of corporate interiors. Offered in a fresh colour palette with a strong international flair, complex neutrals in shades of beige and grey are complemented with splash colours such as rich eggplant, turquoise teal and lime.

“Paste Up adds a fresh dimension to the continuing evolution of textured products,” comments the spokeswoman.
As part of the company’s ECO360 approach to sustainable product design, which include possessing a BRE A rating, certified carbon neutral and with recycled content, Paste Up is constructed from 100 per cent solution dyed type 6.6 nylon that is resistant to light and harsh cleaning chemicals. The result is an eye-catching range that provides office spaces with a high-performance modular carpet that will retain its looks under heavy use. With the Underscore ES cushion backing, Paste Up can also be supplied with the TractionBack adhesive-free installation system, facilitating ease of replacement and eliminating potentially harmful emissions.

Milliken Carpet Europe is a member of Milliken & Company, a world leader in product innovation. It has, at its US headquarters, one of the world’s largest textile and chemical research centres.

From its advanced manufacturing facility in Wigan, north-west England, the company’s European Contract Carpet Division has been supplying high-performance modular carpet since 1987.

Milliken’s extensive product portfolio offers a wide choice for both the private and public sectors. “Our collection includes premium cut pile fusion bonded Milliken colours, ideal for high-end office spaces, high-performance loop pile, and essentials value loop pile range, which includes a collection developed specifically for public sector clients,” says the spokesman.

Milliken & Company has more than 11,000 associates working in 60 manufacturing locations around the world producing 19,000 different textile and chemical products.
