BASF solutions for oil and gas market

The company is one step ahead of the needs of the oil and gas industry and the latest SPE event was an opportunity for the company to present its achievements

November 2014

BASF showcased at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in Amsterdam its range of innovative chemical solutions as well as sustainable solutions for the upstream oil and gas industry market.

The solutions allow companies to maximise their operations throughout the different phases of petroleum production including drilling, cementing, stimulation, production and enhanced oil recovery.

The company’s innovations covered all application segments:

Basoblock: cementing latex-based, film forming additives with tunable performance profiles that help block gas migration through the cement slurry. In addition, the high temperature latex stabiliser Emulphor FAS 30 used in conjunction with Basoblock can prevent latex coagulation and improves slurry rheology in brines.

BasoMSA: an excellent option for stimulating high temperature wells with a superior performance at high temperatures, outstanding corrosion behavior and superb environmental profile.

Aspiro: a new range of polymers and surfactants that can be applied in a large variety of field conditions to enhance oil recovery. With the Aspiro product range customers can get combined expertise from one source.

The Aspiro P range consists of water soluble polymers based on polyacrylamide (PAM) technology. Standard anionic PAMs are suitable for mild field conditions, while developmental associative thickening polymers have shown promising behavior in demanding fields.

The Aspiro S product portfolio comprises a broad range of surfactants, co-surfactants and solvents.

During the conference, BASF highlighted application-specific presentations on the following topics: production additives, stimulation additives, drilling additives and cementing additives.

“Industry events such as ATCE are a great forum for us to meet with our customers and discuss the technical challenges the oil and gas  industry is facing such as those associated with unconventional resources, enhanced oil recovery and water management,” said Justine Smith, vice president Global Oilfield Solutions, BASF. “We are continually working closely with our customers to leverage our competence in chemistry to offer sustainable and competitive solutions for the industry.”

An international team of BASF experts welcomed customers and visitors at the booth to discuss and exchange on the latest innovations as well as the existing range of proven, high-quality products for drilling, cementing, stimulation, production and EOR.

BASF’s portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products and crop protection products to oil and gas.

As the world’s leading chemical company, it combines economic success with environmental protection and social responsibility. Through science and innovation, it enables its customers in nearly every industry to meet the current and future needs of society. Its products and solutions contribute to conserving resources, ensuring nutrition and improving quality of life.

BASF Global Oilfield Solutions offers a wide range of products to help the oilfield service industry make efficient formulations. The portfolio in this field is broad and  comprised of products for the drilling and completion of oil wells as well as chemicals for continuous and cost-efficient production of valuable oil and gas resources. BASF Global Oilfield Solutions develops next-generation surfactants and polymers designed to support enhanced oil recovery operations by means of chemical injection.
