The UAE-based Hidayath Group, one of the leading manufacturers of stainless steel architectural and industrial products, has made significant advances in the export of its mainly architectural products even as it prepares for its milestone 40th anniversary.

A group spokesman said exports in 2013 accounted for 40 per cent of total sales, 28 per cent higher than in the previous year,

In the four years between 2009 and 2013, total exports surged 200 per cent, he said.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and India accounted for 55 per cent of sales revenues, with the home market of the UAE contributing the remainder. Saudi Arabia was the top overseas buyer with 35 per cent of all sales.

Hidayath Group has three manufacturing facilities in the UAE and one in India. The UAE plants are Hidayath Stainless Steel at Dubai Investment Park; Al Hashimi Metal Products Manufacturing in Al Quoz, Dubai, and Hidayath Heavy Industry (HHI) in Dubai Industrial City. The Indian plant is located in Bangalore, India, and makes purely architectural products.

Hidayath Stainless Steel manufactures semi-finished materials including pipes, architectural finishes and flat and long products. The group established the UAE’s first stainless steel tube mill in March 2008 moved by the desire to maintain Hidayath’s status as a premier source of stainless steel products and offer complete solutions in that product category.

As the largest stainless steel tube mill in the Middle East with an in-house slitting line and annealing and testing facilities, the mill is capable of producing ERW pipes and hollow sections up to four inches in various thickness, finishes and grades.

“Thanks to a high level of durability, quality material and the most innovative ideas and solutions, our product line is widely used across many sectors for architectural and industrial applications,” said Hidayath Group.

“Our market spectrum has been broadening beyond our estimation,” it added.

LONG JOURNEY

Rehan Hidayath, commercial director, Hidayath Group, provided a history of the group. Rehan is the second son of Hidayath Abbas, the founder of what has now grown into one of the region’s biggest manufacturers and traders in stainless steel products for the construction industry.

“My father first arrived in Dubai in 1968 as a humble employee on a minimum wage and by 1976 he had started Hidayath Hardware Trading, a small single-shutter shop,” said Rehan. “The company’s trading activity grew into carbon steel trading and eventually we became the first company to trade in stainless steel in the area.”

In 2012 the company opened its own office in Jeddah having conducted business in Saudi Arabia for many years and plans to open one in Oman this year, said Rehan. “Today we have the largest stainless steel service centre in the Middle East with manufacturing units covering a total area of 2.3 million sq ft.”

Hidayath’s rapid expansion began in 1996 when the company launched its first stainless steel service centre. With over 50 per cent of sales in the UAE, the company’s exports reach the entire GCC region, North Africa, Europe, the Subcontinent and Australia. The company also maintains large stocks of carbon steel products to meet market requirements.

Today Hidayath works across the GCC region with some of the region’s best known design and construction names. From Armani to Saudi Bin Laden Group the company is the main supplier of stainless steel products for the region’s construction industry. Its manufacturing, trading, project management/supplies and services operations ensure that the company is able to serve a range of requirements from architectural to industrial, and is now looking to develop its expertise into the energy industry.
