Bahrain’s Asry, the ship and rig repair yard, has signed a deal with Solas Marine Services Group enabling the latter to build a 2,000 sq m service centre on its premises.

The centre will service life boats, life rafts and firefighting and lifesaving appliances, expanding Asry’s services portfolio and bringing new business opportunities to the country, Asry said.

“This is the first development in a programme to increase Asry’s technical resources, which will continue to roll out in 2014. Asry already boasts a leading line-up of in-yard workshops, but is investing in even more third-parties setting up in the yard, with a view to maintaining its reputation as a one-stop solution for all marine repairs,” the company said.

Asry’s chief executive Nils Kristian Berge and its technical resources and business development general manager Magdy Moustafa signed the five-year agreement with Solas Marine Services group general manager Sanjay Prabhu.

“The agreement is in line with Asry’s policy of developing the yard’s technical resources and staying ahead of clients’ needs,” Berge said, adding that it will strengthen Asry’s leading position and followed Asry chairman Sheikh Duaij Bin Salman Al Khalifa’s desire to diversify sources of income through partnerships.

The project begins this month and will be completed before year’s end.

Moustafa said that the agreement is the first in a series of similar arrangements and would add to Asry’s achievements.

In his remarks, Prabhu commented that the deal would be mutually beneficial and encourage his company to intensify its relationship with Asry.

As well as its usual servicing functions, Solas offers turnkey projects covering fire alarms, gas alarms and safety protection systems suitable for use in offshore drilling units, supply vessels and naval vessels.
